Pregnant momsCreative Pregnant Moms Have Many Options

That magic day has happened and your dreams have come true! You’re pregnant with a baby. From this moment on, you know your life is going to be different, but then you realize it won’t be different enough – unless you make a change

While you may have loved your job just a week ago, but perhaps you’re already realizing it’s the place that will take you away from seeing your children grow up. Keeping you from seeing your baby’s first steps and hearing their first words.

Or perhaps your kids are older and it has been a slow burn of discontent working all of the time and you are dreaming of spending more time with them. Wishing that you didn’t have to drop them in daycare or miss their daily snuggles and conversations.

Maybe you’ve thought about a work-from-home job… but know that’s not a fit for you.

Plus, you’re mind keeps screaming…. “You should start a business!”… but then you think, is that even realistic? … that you don’t know the first thing about starting a business or even what kind of business that you would start.

If this sounds like you… don’t be disheartened… I want you to know it’s not your fault, after all, everything we learn in school is all about getting us ready for work – really, about getting a job working for someone else; not helping us consider creating a business of our own.

That’s why in this post I’m going to show you the first three steps to dreaming up your new business and more importantly getting out of your own way.

How Creative Moms Realize They Can Run Their Own Business

The biggest issue you have about starting a business has nothing to do with business skills or knowledge… but everything to do with what kind of business you should start. Not knowing this answer can of course lead to doubting your ability in the first place. The good news is that this doubt doesn’t come from a place of fear, but from uncertainty of focus which is far simpler to solve.

The first step is to assess what kind of business you would want to start. Take a look at your passions, talents, and skills. Dig deep to align them with your purpose. This is how you will find your calling and the perfect business for you!

Tori’s Confusion

When Tori first came to me, she had a pretty significant problem, you see she was working full time as a scheduling coordinator in a local office and had little time to spend with her husband and baby. She also confessed to me that she hated to get up in the mornings to go to work, because of the toxic environment – she was so stressed from the job that it was actually making her hair fall out

The work she did was not a passion, it was a paycheck, and it was keeping her from being home with her son, but she worried about their financial stability without her job. Her passion was creating short form videos and artistic images about her hobbies on social media and YouTube, but she kept thinking “I am not famous, how can I possibly make a business doing that?”

On our first call, Tori immediately had an A-HA moment!  She found that she could eliminate some of her confusion by looking at her passions in a different way. She simply needed to shift her content creation to promote businesses instead of her hobbies and businesses would pay her for social media marketing.  Not only that, she could set up a business and find clients immediately. She got so excited that she quit her job that week in order to start her business right away.

There was some work she had to put into it, but by the end of the very next week she had already signed up a client that was paying her $1000 each month to create content and post on their social media. Now, $1000 a month may not seem like much to some people, but she was really fired up that she could earn more than a third of her monthly salary in just one week!

She saw it as a sign that she could easily succeed in her new business. In just a couple of months she had retained several more clients and she never has to leave her baby to go back to a job. She told me that she was so thankful; her stress levels had dropped because of her new business and her hair was no longer falling out!

Tori is now very successful and grateful that her business supports her as she stays home with Charlie. She has more than enough money to pay her bills every month, as well as time to pursue her passions! Her only regret is that she did not start earlier so that she had never needed to leave Charlie at all.

That’s why it is so important for you to stop worrying about all the confusing possibilities, going over and over the same anxious thoughts. Take some time and focus on your passions, talents, and skills. That is how you will discover your true calling.

Now, I’m not saying everyone has this creative little thing they do that’s a great business idea. But I’m surprised at how many do, and how many others, once they see starting a business as a realistic thing, actually discover a path to their dream lifestyle.

How to Creatively Stand Out in a Competitive Business Marketplace

The second thing that troubles many moms when they are deciding on a creative business is the belief that there are too many other businesses offering the same services. You may start to worry that you will never get any clients due to the stiff competition.

You are not wrong to think about these things, but I want you to know that there is a secret sauce that makes this worry irrelevant. It is a very simple idea, but not one that many business people understand.

Choosing a specific group of people that you specialize in serving will help you to stand out in some very crowded marketplaces. Solving the problems of a specific group of people will allow you to succeed in business even if you are considering a popular kind of creative business because it is the perfect fit for you.

Discover a unique way of serving the people you work with, and do it so well, that they spread the word about what you do. Choose to start your business with a strategy that solves a problem your clients have and make it a specialty that only you do. You will stand out from the crowd naturally and have an easier time creating a financially successful business.

Find your people – then make them really happy by doing something only you do and you will be amazed to see how much influence you will have and how many new clients come to you for your special touch.

Sophia’s Fear of Competition

Sophia was expecting her first child and was filled with a deep sense of joy and anticipation. She worked as a video editor in a busy production company, but as her pregnancy progressed, she began to dream of a different future— one where she could stay home with her baby.

As she shared her dream of starting her own video business with friends, their reactions planted seeds of doubt. “There are so many video companies out there,” they said. “How will you compete?” After all, she could even be competing against her old video company.

During her first call, I mentioned to her that specializing with a group of people you are passionate about would make her stand out above the competition. She thought about it and realized that her unique perspective as a mother could resonate deeply with other parents and families.

No one else in her space was capturing the essence of family, love, and life’s special moments for families in the way she wanted to. She decided to specialize in working with families — capturing moments like births, first steps, birthdays, and family celebrations with video. She called her business “Storybook Films.”

As she built her network, Sophia found that many people resonated with her vision. Families were drawn to her genuine approach and her ability to tell their stories with warmth and authenticity. Her clients appreciated her unique perspective as a mom, and word of mouth spread quickly.

Soon after starting her business, Sophia felt a deep sense of fulfillment. She was not only able to stay home with her own baby but also to capture and preserve precious moments for other families. Her fear of competition faded away, replaced by the joy of doing what she loved with people who appreciated her unique talents.

In a world full of competition, find your unique voice and your future clients will resonate with it. By focusing on what you love and connecting with those who appreciate your work, you can turn your passion into a fulfilling and successful business. Embrace your journey with confidence, knowing that your unique perspective and talents can set you apart from any competition in your market.

How to Combat the Fear of New Mom and Business Owner Overwhelm

The third problem that many new moms starting a business face is worrying about being overwhelmed and letting either their clients or their family down. There are so many stories of moms exhausted from the daily work of having kids, let alone starting a business at the same time, that this is an added underlying anxiety that you may be feeling. This fear is natural, after all, you have never grown a business, and already feel stretched with taking care of your family.

I have found that the solution to the overwhelm lies in being prepared. Just as you make sure that you have diapers and a car seat for your newborn, you can set up a time management plan to remove the overwhelm in your life with a new business.

Mia’s Fear of Overwhelm

Mia was expecting her 3rd baby, a joyful occasion that filled her with excitement and anticipation. She worked as a medical assistant in a bustling doctor’s office, but as her due date approached, Mia began to dream of a different life—one where she could stay home with her kids while still contributing to the family’s finances.

One evening, as she sat in her cozy living room sketching, Mia thought about starting her own graphic design business. The idea thrilled her, but the more she thought about it, the more her excitement turned into anxiety. “How will I manage a new business, a newborn and my older kids at the same time?” she wondered. The fear of being overwhelmed loomed large in her mind.

During our initial call, Mia realized that her fear stemmed from the uncertainty of juggling her responsibilities in a situation she had never encountered before.

Determined to minimize the potential for overwhelm when the baby was born, Mia began to outline her plan. She broke down her tasks into manageable steps and created a schedule that included time for her business, her children, and herself.

When the baby was born Mia put her plan into action, she found that the fear of being overwhelmed began to dissipate. She launched her graphic design business, “Mia’s Studio of Design,” and started taking on clients who appreciated her unique artistic style. With her time management plan in place, Mia was able to meet deadlines, nurture her family, and take care of herself.

One sunny afternoon, while working on a design project with her baby napping beside her, Mia realized that she was not only managing but thriving. Her structured approach to her time allowed her to balance her responsibilities, make a great income, and pursue her passion without feeling overwhelmed.

Combat the fear of being overwhelmed by creating a time management plan. Prioritize your tasks, set realistic goals, and organize your time to balance both your new business and your role as a mother. With a clear plan and structured approach, you can navigate your responsibilities and find success in both areas of your life. Embrace your journey with confidence, knowing that you can achieve your financial dreams while being a loving and present parent.

There is no reason to fear that you won’t be able to stay home with your children. As a creative mom, your talents, your skills, your passions, and your purpose can guide you to find that perfect business and amazing clients to serve enabling you to be home with your children. You can start the business with a good strategy that will allow you to have success in business and time to spend with your precious ones. You and your kids deserve this time together and you can make it happen with courage, strategy, and perseverance.

You can use your creativity to help you support your family while you work at home and cherish those moments with your children that you don’t want to miss.
